I have a greyed out "whatever" on my desktop now. Why?

I do not know what it is or why it's there, but it is always there now.

I have tried restarting several times, but it just will not go away.

Please help me understand what it is and why it's there.

    Hello Mike,

This is a normal hidden "desktop.ini" file that shows when you don't have Don't Show hidden files, folders, and drives selected like below.

    I'm confused!
I never had it before, why do I have it now?
Did I do something to cause it to appear?
What can I do to cause it to go away?

Again, I am a 79 year old novice & fool!

You can just select (dot) Don't Show hidden files, folders, and drives selected like in option one of the tutorial below to not see it anymore.
