Yes, it doesn't seem to be a problem. All the permissions seem fine and I can copy single files back and forth between these drives just not the entire folder?

    Alright...

Try copying an entire music folder to that folder, then try to copy it back.

So for clarification, you have an external HDD with lots of files and folders. But you cannot copy the MUSIC folder TO your internal HDD, but can WRITE to the music folder? And you can copy single files to and from the external HDD, just not the WHOLE folder?

Yep, I can copy single files but not the folder.

When I drag the folder (or copy and paste it) NOTHING happens. No transfer dialogue or anything.

Please tell me I don't have to copy 13,893 music files one by one?

    I hope not!

If you have another HDD somewhere, can you try transferring to that?

Odd. Try a backup program, like SyncBack, or something and see if it can back it up.

Unplug your external drive. Go to device manager and uninstall all the USB drivers. Reboot and Windows will reinstall the USB drivers. Try the external drive again.

I'll do some more Googling and if I still can't find anything I'll just boot up a live CD and copy them over.

Thanks everyone for trying to help.

If I do find a solution I'll post it here.

The drive works fine, Explorer will copy single files, but not entire folders.

I found this thread on Microsoft Answers, there are no answers though. (Ironic?)

Edit: I signed up so it now says "3 People need an answer to this" on the site.
