seemed fine on her lap top with a animated wallpaper.
Except some one, some where will have to maintain it. And for Microsoft the cost of maintaining the code base of that functionality is just not worth it. Instead it is better left off for third-party developers. Bounty Program Success: "Active Desktop" Replacement for Vista :: the How-To Geek

one of the things that sucked about active desktop was it ruined your icons. I used to love drawing on my screen (I had a tablet) through the MS active desktop plugin, but it made the icons look shocking! Also failed to initialise on login and would leave a massive orange background sometimes.

A term I learned this year in Economics. It means that a new technology or method takes over, and destroys the old method. Great for consumers, as it usually means lower prices and more supply. Also good for the company using the new technology. However, it is terrible for the company that made the old product.
A good example of this is typewriters and computers. Computers were an awesome and great new invention that soon replaced the typewriter. This was great for consumers, companies, the world. However, it put the Typewriter companies out of business.

The point is that change will happen, regardless of who it hurts, especially if it is for the benefit of everyone. You can try to hold back change by bailing out the typewriter companies, giving them money to stay in business, but it just holds back the inevitable.
Now, I am not saying that changing to Windows 7 is irresistible, I am trying to say that change can be difficult, but if you embrace it, you cam both flourish.

Now, XP was (is) a great OS, and will continue to be for many people. But Windows 7 IS NOT WINDOWS XP. If you DON'T like Seven, GO BACK to XP and stop complaining about how different it is. Give Seven two weeks of your time, try it out. If you still don't like it, we will help you put XP back on. If you like it, then great.
STOP complaining about differences and put in some EFFORT in learning something new for once. Dive in, take a chance, there will not always be someone there to hold your hand in the dark. But you don't always need it.
In this case, there is a hand to lead you, and that is us and the internet. There are great tutorials out there, great programs. If you look, I am sure you will find something.

You could spend hours complaining and trying to find a way to save and bring back the archaic and old. Or you could embrace the change, and you might find that it is for the better.

Well said Bob.
Couldn't agree more.

To those of you that don't like change,
I believe in choice, it's yours to use.

If you don't like something that is new and different, keep using what you know and like.

It's not reasonable to abhor something because it's not the same as what you have been using. Invest the time to at least start to learn the new things that you will inevitably encounter during your life.
How else will you know what it's capable of doing, you might even like it, given a chance.

Alteration, variation, advancement, modernization, it's all good.

Heehee, my name is not Bob, but thanks to all who liked my write up.
I wrote that while "working" on a project in class, just something that popped to mind.

I guess Econ really was good for something!
(Just kidding, I really am enjoying that class!).

in a perfect world we would all have the money and time to pay and upgrade and unistall and install every single bit of software as soon as there was an upgrade unfortunatly not everyone has that luxury.. i myself have a lot of pay software and some of them are pay once have a free key for life but like windows 7 and office 2007 and photoshop where you pay hundreds of dollars/euros, its costly to keep upgrading. and let alone have time to unistall it all and install new software..

i like to upgrade.. well not right away espesially with operating systems i leave it about 6 months for all apps to be compatible and drivers..etc

i guess some people are also happy with what works for them they spent time to learn the program they dont want to upgrade and have to learn the new gadgets or feel no reason to upgrade maybe the upgrades in the upgrade are not worth it.

i dont agree because it would be more costly to the customer forcing them to pay and upgrade everything. would probably mean less money for m$ also doing that.

personally i will be upgrading to windows 8 pretty much 6 or so months after release.

Good One!
