Can i still use windows 7 in 2024?

I will dual boot Linux and windows 7 in it because win 10 keeps updating that I got frustrated.

2 weeks ago we had 4x windows 7 systems here, normal everyday use no issues.

I've just bought 2x Windows 7 compatible laptops, and I'm gonna start using just them, or also them, asap. the reason: I hate W10. for a lot of reasons. Using a legacy operating system on reasonably new hardware (i5 mobile 3rd gen, i5 mobile 7th gen), reminds you just how fast and responsive "legacy" software is on newer hardware

quartz1 so its safe to use win 7 in 2024? I watch a video of someone exposing their internet in windows xp, it only works with firewall off. What browser should i use? Supermium or mypal68? And where do i get one?

I'm going to give you the official line; Windows 7 is no longer supported as an operating system.

I'll also give you an opinion; "security" and "vulnerabilities" are massively over stated. It's much more likely that MS wants the ability to have complete control over your system, and to be able to push software updates over your broadband connection, as and when it wants (opinion).

Yes, Firefox 115, also known as Firefox ESR. also, good idea to install and run Microsoft Security Essentials for your AV software. Same definitions that Windows 10 and 11 get. Although nobody knows how long it will work. After which, at least a good free AV, or paid if you think you need it.

Yes, user behavior is by far the biggest item in online security. But the best way to use Windows 7 these days is to keep it offline as much as possible. Use it for something you need it for, and another computer for your everyday browsing, one that is up to date. I use Linux Mint (LMDE) for that. I use Windows 7 for my music composition. If I take it online, I immediately update MSE. I often scan it before signing off. Have never had any problems.

as said above, completely....put MSE with current updates on it, and whenever you download something, manually scan it. don't rely on some "auto download scan" system. you might also want to put something like Malwarebytes on there too. I need to say, I've never run any online games, so....there may well be vulnerabilities in your Call of Duty and Fortnite, that wouldn't be covered by Win 7.

I have never worked with win 10, but is it that bad? I ask because I have win 7 ultimate and loved it for 8 years, until last week when I powered on/booted up, suddenly an upgraded cleaner 6.11.10455 pops up full screen out of no where on my machine. (When I normally open cleaner it has always been version 5.8.)

Everything has been screwed up, including my computer is suddenly not genuine anymore, after 8 years or so of operation. I reinstalled the key and still says not genuine. I have worked all last week. Several anti malware programs allowed it to enter, can't find the hidden 6.11.10455 upgrade, even when running 8 or more downloaded programs suggested. And I mean hidden. Even when I reinstall 5.8 with internet continually disconnected, after rebooting it is upgraded to 6.11.10455. Maybe memory malware which is very difficult to find? It is really disheartening.

Is win 10 that bad. If not, which version should I get, or should I go apple? I have no idea about Linux either. I am at a loss, so much crap, attacks out there. I also cannot use my printer/scanner with win 11.

If you don't need Windows for a specific thing that Linux can't do (or do easily), then Linux may be your best bet. There are several Linux "distros" that are so user-friendly that you will have little, if any, trouble making the switch. My recommendation, as stated above, is Linux Mint, but the Debian version (LMDE). The regular version is Ubuntu-based, and many Linuxers feel that Ubuntu is going the way of Microsoft (bloat, complicated updating, snaps etc). The updates for LMDE are a breeze. It's safe, modern and beautiful. Debian is a far lighter and saner system that Ubuntu. I think that the Mint team will probably abandon the Ubuntu version at some point, after enough people make the switch to LMDE. Why not give it a try? It won't cost you anything.
