    rename OS partition

to rename a partition that contains an OS in XP you would goto start up and recovery there you could change the name of the OS but that option seems to have moved,
    where has it moved to?
    thanks

Boot.ini is a relic for primitive boot managers. Windows Vista and 7 use a more sophisticated boot manager.

    logicearth,

I realize that we don't share the same viewpoint on this, but "sophisticated boot manager" seems like an oxymoron to me. Maybe I'm just not sophistiscated enough to appreciate it.

Not sure Disk Mgmt will also change it in the Boot Menu, if that's what OP wants.

Might need to use EasyBCD>Change Settings:
    rename OS partition-capture.png

Compared to the limited functionality compared to the boot managers residing in previous versions of Windows? It is.
