Is there a way to open folders where they display at maximum size instead of the smaller size? Some setting????

the display/monitor uses the generic driver for display and it is 1024768 or 800x600 but it looks very odd it should be bigger because my screen is bigger. I have a acer monitor but is there something I can download to fix the display size?
