[QUOTE]There are still updates? Every time I try to install them, I get a message that they can't be installed. [QUOTE]

That error message seems to be displayed after the updates are installed. I get that error message but then MSE shows the latest virus definitions ARE installed. I think someone in some thread somewhere found that the installer was giving that error cause it was trying to access an old webpage and the URL doesn't work anymore, but that happens after the definitions are actually installed so it's a false error
I'm using an icon in the taskbar. I don't know if it's from MSE. I no longer know where the updates are coming from, as I haven't used the icon in years, and it's grayed out. They say they're installing, and to restart the computer. When I restart, it says they can't be installed, and it undoes all the changes. Is that what you're referring to? I no longer remember where to access MSE.

It's the regular update icon, but it's always grayed out.Is it safe to use windows 7 in 2025?-icon.png
I didn't know there were still updates, but it says there are 2 important updates and 42 optional updates. Don't know if the important ones installed or not. I've forgotten where to look for the list.

Eh? I thought that MSE was dead, and it won't update on my W7 machine. Perhaps I am missing something.

Stopped working on both setup (desktop+laptop) the "Virus Update Definitions" on 27 February, a week ago. Real Time Protection is still ON.
    Any insight? thought?
MS seen to have changed something on the update servers, and MSE now can't find any AV update beyond 1.423.125.0. This fix restores MSE's ability to auto update and find the latest definitions.

Forget about the .bat. You just need to run MicrosoftEasyFix51044.msi. Get it from Microsoft here:

The page is blank because it's about to prompt you to download a file. Give it a minute and the prompt should come up:

I don't get a file download page. The "click here"on the EasyFix page produces nothing

The direct download link MS gives for the EasyFix is:

    https://download.microsoft.com/download/0/6/5/0658B1A7-6D2E-474F-BC2C-D69E5B9E9A68/MicrosoftEasyFix51044.msi

[QUOTE=Bree;3534594]The direct download link MS gives for the EasyFix is:
    https://download.microsoft.com/downl...syFix51044.msi
That produces a blank page. Maybe because I'm using an unconventional browser, r3dFox. I downloaded it in Chrome, and installed.

So this makes the OS more secure? Is anyone still writing viruses for Win 7 ?
