How to partition my external HDD?

How do I make some partitions on my external passport?

I'll be using Second copy to back up my data & Acronis to back up my OS, so I wanted to put them on 2 different partitions.

Just wondering, why use two different programs to backup data from the same source? You can configure and format your external drive at Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk management,,,

    I dont see admin tools?

This was the way I was told to back it up so I can access the normal media data on the external like a normal flash drive.

Even if you gave two partitions, the drive fails, you've lost everything.

No I have an internal HDD for my OS's (Ubuntu 64 & Win7 64) and an internal HDD for all of my media.

I am then backing up each one of those onto one main external passport.

So where is admin tools in control panel so I can make partitions?

You need to Start > run, and type diskmgmt.msc.

So I see the HDD I want to make partitions with, but how do I do it?

I dont want to be just trying things & mess it all up.

You right-click on the unallocated space and choose create New simple volume and then set it;s size.. You can make as many as you want, but I;d suggest only two

That's because you formated the whole hard drive,'

The only thing you can go is right-click on disk 1 and choose Shrink. This will leave unallocated space for you to make partitions.
