Any way to pin an .xls file to explorer icon on taskbar

I have an xls file that I frequent a lot and was hoping I could pin it to the explorer icon on my taskbar. I know I can pin it to the taskbar under the excel icon but I don't need an excel icon on my taskbar to clutter it up. Is there any way to pin it to the explorer icon instead?

Pinning to the taskbar is for applications, not files. That is the dealio.

Create a shortcut to it and pin that to the taskbar.

    Hello DaGrandMastah,

    Welcome to 7 Forums.

If you have windows explorer pinned to the taskbar, you could make a shortcut that was pinned to it. Unfortunately a shortcut won't pin to the taskbar itself.

I'm not looking to make it it's own shortcut on the taskbar. I was hoping that I could add it as a link/shortcut within the windows explorer menu (when you right click on the explorer icon) but it won't allow me. The only thing it lets me do is pin to excel on the taskbar but I don't want/need an excel icon on there.

I'm not getting you, where do you want the icon to appear?

Can you provide a screen shot?

Sadly, the option is not available to pin any .xls to taskbar.

I was looking to add it to the explorer icon. Right where my pointer is in the below pic.
