    Winsxs permissions

I tried to load some statistical software called Stata 9.0 on a new PC with Windows 7. Part way through the installation, I got an error message that setup did not have permission to access this folder:

    C:\\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_Microsoft.VC80.OpenMP_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.42_x-ww_40f01e47

I've tried un-hiding folders and I still don't see that folder. I also tried to change account permissions and make all subfolders of winsxs write-able, but nothing worked.

Any suggestions? I'd like to avoid purchasing a newer version of Stata.

    thanks.

Do not mess with the winsxs folder! That can seriously mess up the computer!
What it are probably need to install is Visual C++ 2008 Redistribution...

However the program should not even be trying to access the winsxs folder...
