Is there "Remove Hardware Safely" in Windows 7?

There is an ICON in the task tray that has a green check in it. This is the safely remove function. Just right click on the ICON and select the appropriate device to Eject. It will give you a message when it is safe to unplug.
No but the thing is that wenever i plugg in things into the USB slot... the icon with the green check doesnt even show up on the taskbar
Hi, AceGuy 78 If you want to be really sure you don't do any harm to your info on the USB,
you can go into My Computer and right click the device and select Eject.
You can also make a shortcut for it if you want.

It should only really matter for external hard drives and other devices, not flash drives as windows disables write caching on them. But to be safe and ensure that the windows is finished with the flash drive, use the methods described by onextraid or jfar.
Click the little arrow to view the icon, click it and then your usb device to eject.
