A Repair Install in Windows 7 is run from the desktop, not boot mode. It is an Upgrade over itself, keeping all programs, files and settings in place but reinstalling the OS.

The Repair console on the booted DVD or Repair disk is completely different, offering Startup Repair, Restore from a Backup Image, Command Line, and System Restore from boot mode.

Repair Install hasn't been run from boot mode since XP.

One last attempt before Repair Install is to run sfc /scannow which will check system file integrity. It may repair the missing files. If it can't it will tell you.

You should also try MacGyvr's suggestion to System Restore which is in Accessories>System Tools.

But I can't to the desktop to launch the DVD to start a repair install...
I have tried sfc /scannow and the are some errors it can't fix. All the system restore point are sadly not there.

How would I run this program without accessing a usable desktop? I ran Little Registry Cleaner before I was locked out of safe mode, but no RegistryFix.

Last Know Configuration also fails to boot.

Have you tried running a Repair install from Safe Mode?

If not, boot into your Win7 DVD Repair Console, click throught to Recovery tools list and run Startup Repair 3 times to try to get Win7 started so you can run a Repair install from desktop.

Windows will not let you run a repair install from Safe Mode - it must be a normal desktop.

I will try startup repair 3 times. When I boot into Safe Mode it boots to the initilizing drivers screen and hangs at CLASSPNP.sys. Joy!

On that same Recov Tools list in DVD REpair console is System Restore. Have you tried it from there?

Right the 3 times startup repair didn't fix it either. Any ideas?
