I've already asked in a different thread but didn't get an answer so I'm just going to copy my question. Back home I have an old machine: 1GB RAM, 1.7 GHz Celeron CPU and x1500 series ATI Radeon 256MB video. It's on XP now. Should I consider upgrading it to Windows 7? It's mainly used (by my brother) for browsing, chatting and games, or at least the once that can run on it.

I wouldn't.
Windows 7 may well install on this machine. But for your stated purposes it wouldn't accomplish much.
Gaming performance isn't likely to change much just because you changed the OS. A 1.7 Celeron is certainly all you need for browsing and chatting.
Not to mention whatever aggravation you might have to go through with drivers, required program updates, etc.
The money would be better spent toward new hardware or a new PC entirely.
As I though but some people tried to convince me other ways. Thanks guys
Another "no" vote here. It would run alright but upgrading the OS when the computer is only being used for a few minor things wouldn't be financially feasible. Best to save your money and get a whole new computer just for Windows 7.
