No i never had XP on it, i bought it with Vista home premuim 32bit. and it was working well for year and there was no problem burning. before a couple of months the problem started, i tried to go back to restore points but there was no use.
This week i installed Win7 ultimate 32bit, and here i am! :S
The only thing i noticed in your first post where you went to device mgr there's an exclamation point beside your chipset driver, that's where i would start.
