    Forgotten Password Workaround?

    Hi All

Decided to change my pword before the weekend to keep it safe from smaller hands and then went away for three days. On returning, I brought my PC back from hibernate/standby and did so continuously till today, where I shut it down. Problem is I have NO clue what i set that password as, and I'm pretty sure I left a hint but it doesnt seem to be showing up, so maybe i failed on that one

So does anyone know any workarounds? maybe a bootable third party app that kills the password like you would with a second account~? I've already tried using the MS Diagnostics and Recovery toolset but it refuses to recognise 7 as a valid OS for it and therefore will not let me use Locksmith. I only have the one account on the computer, so I cant resolve this through another Admin. Its probably worth noting I have also not made any changes to the status of the Administrator account, but Ive noticed it doesnt come up in Safe Mode anymore.

So please guys, any advice would help (Well, except use decent memorable passwords of course.)

Hi Guys, Thanks for the info, but just to let you know my experience. Tried the boot cd and changed the admin account password. When I logged back in the account had disapeared completely. Just re-installing 7 now. Was kids pc and had only just installed it so not a great problem. Will be creating a restore cd this time.
Anyway keep up the good work guys,
    Stu.

Another workaround I can suggest is the ntpasswd bootable ISO.

Offline NT Password & Registry Editor

It loads a small linux distro and lets you reset the password of any user to blank, change the password of any user and other useful things.

Tried in XP, VISTA and Windows 7 (all builds) , works fine.
It's a handy , fast tool which I always have with me, booting from my USB stick.
    Plus, its free.

    Cheers

    Recover Windows 7 Password

With method 3, do you lose the account and the files under the account?

Hello NJ-User, and welcome to Seven Forums.

No, you do not lose your account. It only resets the password for it. :)
