This happened to me when I had Vista. I upgraded to Win 7 shortly after it came out.
Lately, the taskbar freezes. It went from never doing it, to every two weeks, every few days... and now every night. And sometimes affects volume control as well.
I'm fully updated, defragged, virus and spyware free and about to scan my hard drive for any errors.
How can I make this stop freezing! It's driving me nuts!
No. I haven't. Problem is, this requires the disk. I purchased my copy on Windows 7 online from Microsoft with a student discount. (Got it for $30.)
I realize that the last post on the Windows 7 Taskbar freezing was some time ago. However, I had the very same problem and discovered mine was due to the AVG anti-virus software I was using. I tried every forum's "solutions" I could find online until I decided my problem was originating from another source. Reasoning through the problem, I decided that the program on my system (Lenovo T420s Laptop) that had the most overwhelming presence was AVG anti-virus. I attempted to uninstall the program, but it was evidently self-protected from such action. I had to start digging into the Program file, registry, etc, but finally got rid of it. Attempting to download a replacement anti-virus was prohibited also. Finally, I decided to activate fully Windows Defender and update it. I then scanned with Defender and SpyBot. SpyBot found a (virus?) registry entry called "lockdown", which I deleted. Now everything works exactly like it should.
