What is this Thumbs.db file that constantly shows up?

Ok this stupid file is every where, my desktop, my media HDD, I keep deleting it & it keeps showing up.

Thumbs.db is usually an icon cache made by windows for files like pictures etc. Tho is a curious thing coz win 7 don't create any Thumbs.db only xp does.

If u get this on any directory u might consider changing your antivirus coz most sure it is a virus!

Are you accessing any thing though network interfaces? Thumbs.db is only created by Windows 7 for network shares. However it can be turned off in Group Policy.

User Config > Admin Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer
Turns off the caching of thumbnails in hidden thumbs.db files

This policy setting allows you to configure Windows Explorer to cache thumbnails of items residing in network folders in hidden thumbs.db files.

Thumbs.db files can be and are still created in Win7, even if it's not a network share (even though it's often preached that they are only created for network share directories).

There was a thumbs.db file that was still left on my desktop after I did that walk-thru... I thought they should have all disappeared?

I've deleted it, I just hope it doesnt show back up.

Yea when I run CCleaner it always deletes the thumb.db files. They dont annoy me or something but I sometimes like to keep them because then images load faster.
