My electrical stuff always gets turned off at night. My uncle's house burned down during the night, from a faulty tv left on standby. They got out alive, but in the 12 minutes it took for fire trucks to arrive, the house was completely destroyed.
Also, my electricity bill is bad enough already, without using more of it while I'm asleep.
The computer is on from daybreak till bedtime (about 15 hours). I don't personally use it all day but I do run a continuous process while it is switched on.
Most of my processing power is under-utilized with the sort of things I normally do, so I use the spare power to run Folding@Home.

Unless you're running a server or part of some supercomputing thing like folding at home, I don't get why you would leave your pc on all the time. My PC generates a lot of heat and noise so there's no way I would ever leave it on 24/7. And what's with the Global Warming propaganda?
