Aero works, but weird things happen

I activated Aero and tried it out. Love the looks of it, but once I had it running I noticed that everytime I'd come back into the system from a display power down (from Screen Saver), the desktop would slow down to a crawl. I thought at first it was locked up but I saw the mouse cursor was still moving. So I did CTRL-ALT-DEL to look at Task Manager, and it took literally at least a couple of minutes for the control screen to appear so I could even select TM.

It seems that once TM appears the system "snaps" back to normal. But it happens like clockwork every time after the monitor has gone into it's power down mode. When it's not in this state Aero seems to work correctly.

Go to device manager and check your drivers. Have a good graphics card? How about memory, have enough?

You can also try this link to MS.

Does the problem happen when not using Aero?

    Troubleshoot problems with Windows Aero
Using MS stock drivers with my 7600GT. Card works fine. Will take a look at the link.

    Running with 6GB of RAM.

    Hi Tony, Welcome to SF,

I won't recommend the drivers that comes with Microsoft that used to cause problems. If i were you i would download the Nvidia drivers from their website and install them

Here is the link NVIDIA DRIVERS 195.62 WHQL

    Hope this helps

Thanks Capt. Jack. I'm planning to try this again a bit later. I have a GT250 waiting in the wings to replace my 7600GT. I'll roll that in first and then see what happens.

Make sure you use a driver cleaning tool prior to installing the new drivers just in case there is some buggy bits that might be left over. The GTS 250 is a nice budget card and does well for most games on a 22" monitor. You'll like it. If you can run SLI using two of them you'll really like it.
