Upgrade or Full
Question?
Which would be more beneficial to have?
We all know you can do a clean install with upgrade from XP to W7. But are there any actual benefits of buying Full over Upgrade?
Thanks,
D.

Hi dooglo, according to the following link there shouldn't be any different except saving in expense in the process.
Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version
Hope this helps.

I got the upgrade version of Vista, and installed it using the double-install trick. Although this took twice as long as it would have done had I got the full version, I feel that the money saved (approximately a third off the price of the full version) made the slight inconvenience worth while. I think that a similar situation will exist with Windows 7.
There are no benefits of buying the full retail DVD. Microsoft has put us on the honor system. You can install with the upgrade and have the same benefits and convenience as the full value. The only limitation is that you must own a qualifying copy of an OS.
The best way to do the upgrade is
. When you reactivate, do not give your number and uncheck the box asking for an automatic activation. Once activated, use the compter, install your programs, enjoy for up to 30 days. When you are certain and everything is to your liking, activate then. You will activate with a touch tone phone, if initially it does not work. If there are further problems, you will be elevated to a person, who will validate your number and you will be all set. Now the most important part, follow Tews inst and make that system image. Put is on a separate hard drive and update once a month or so. Now regaradeless of any problems you may have; you will not have to validate or install your programs again. You can just use the image to reinstall. Go and enjoy
Sorry, can someone clarify. I always thought one could not upgrade from XP to W7; only upgrade from Vista to W7?We all know you can do a clean install with upgrade from XP to Windows 7
The poster is using the wrong terminology. He means doing a clean install using the upgrade DVD.
I used an upgrade disk. I did a full wipe of my HD installed the upgrade disk and there we go running fresh windows 7 and loving it. It is home premium with all the same tools as full retail. btw mine was free
I figured as much after reading the "how to's". Thanks for stating it again though.
Yes, thank you. And, sorry. Bad english some times, it happens to all of us.
Great news. I'm happy for you that everything is working great. By the way did you use the advise here on the forums to do it?
