Strange icons problem

Lately, a lot of my program icons and file type icons seem to have been replaced by the Windows default file or application icon, as shown in this screenshot. I haven't had any luck so far finding a solution to the problem. Virus scanners have yielded nothing useful either.

Thanks, but I forgot to mention I already tried this. I don't have any file called IconCache.db anywhere on my computer after a thorough search it seems. :/

Just tried that, still no luck . However, I just found that if I try to change the icon of a program, it tells me that Windows can't find a file in the %systemroot%/installer folder. I just looked in that folder and its empty. For certain programs the change icon button is disabled, but with all the ones I could change the icon for, I got this problem. Very strange,

Hi, run this and see if it finds any errors.
Scannow.

Hello Dakana,

From your screenshot it appears that those are Microsoft Office file types. You might check in Default Programs to make sure that Microsoft Office is set as the default program with all of it's associations set to it as well. If that does not help, then see if reinstalling Microsoft Office may be able to repair it for you.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
