Explorer.exe crashing.. Help..!

The only editing that I have done though besides shellstyle, explorerframe and explorer themselves (which have all been restored to defaults) is patching the system with uxstyler.

Just want to avoid a reinstall. Someone must know something.. Anyone elses opinion? If other people agree then I guess I'll go for the reinstall.. But I doubt the problem is more than that of replacing a few files to their defaults.. I'm not a massive desktop customizer.. Haven't changed much.

Note also I have changed my icons with IconPackager, but minutes later restored them to defaults after some system tray icons disappeared.. Sadly I cannot recall as to whether or not this problem was occuring before or after installing IconPackager.. But again I don't see how it could have much to do with it..

BTW.. Trying sfc /scannow now.. See if it does anything. Also going to run an eset virus can overnight. Highly doubt it's anything to do with a virus, but just incase no harm in checking.

Every computer has a way to bring it back to factory default. The way it was on the first day you received it. Go to your computer manual, see what f key you have to repeatedly push during boot to activate the factory specs.

NB Just the way it was the first day. No updates, no programs, the OS you had on the first day.

If interested, make a back up and put it in a safe place just in case, then go for it.

There are free software appl to make back ups My fav is Paragon.

Programs that adjust settings will break things unless they have been properly coded. Unless you have a clean backup image before the tweaking.

This is a long shot, but would the sfc /scannow work in this situation?

Haa I'm such a dope.. Only got around to doing sfc /scannnow late last night.. And yes it worked :) Thank god, saves me the hassle of a reinstall. Thanks guys

Im glad that you took the suggestion given by lil Domii and myself. It is the intent of everyone here to make your use of Windows 7 as enjoyable as possible.

One last thing though.. After installing and uninstalling "Taskbar Eliminator".. It still remains in msconfig in the startup tab.. How do I get rid of it?

One thing that you can try is type services in search. Then go to the service in question. If it is set at automatic, set it to manual or off, if possible. I am sure you, already, tried to just uncheck it in msconfig.

To get rid of any traces of programs i use a 3rd party app, which deletes all connections of the program in the registry, elsewhere on the hard drive.
But since you have already uninstalled it, I would just leave it unchecked if its causing no trouble.
