It can be customised directly without using 3rd party software as another post in this section (not this thread) explains with a great tutorial.

(Thanks for the link and good tutorial).

Glad as I really HATED the 7057 build standard logon screen.

Cheers

I know it can be, there's a tutorial about it.
But this tutorial requires you to do some registry changes (using a reg file)

I was just pointing out there should be a simple built-in option from a menu or themes, without any tweaking.

Use the "Send Feedback" tool and tell them there should be a way of doing it...

Assuming that this facility is retained in the RTM release I'm sure somebody will write some code to automate, the registry changes and the replacement of files with required items.
I doubt, however, that MS will include this themselves as the have always been against customization of the Windows "brand image". Although with the new "Open" attitude they appear to have with Windows 7 who's to say?

Doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me. They could just add a sign in page switcher so you can choose what you want to see there.

And all the 3rd party software people will cry unfair... take Microsoft to court and sue.

I just hope they leave a way to do it without a 3rd party software.

By the way you can use Local Group policy to enable the logon background change and not manually change the registry, so no hack of the registry is really needed. Most people never even look at what can be done with gpedit.

I didn't say you wouldn't be able to install third party login screens now did I?

I bet that if enough people complain about that log in screen they may come up with an easier way to change it. Then those third party artists can go to town creating new ones for people to use. It is a bit fluffy for my taste also.
