I'm not a fan of roxio or nero...for the same reason...both are very bloated applications.
I've had good luck with cdburnerXP and imgburn. My preference is imgburn as I have had a few problems in the past with cbburnerXP..causing my CPU to spike to 100% when burning a cd. Had something to do with one of the application DLL's according to their forum site...not sure if that is fixed now or not. I've simply moved onto imgburn and have been very happy.
common problem, find a good up to date burning software. something about the way 7 handles burning made a lot of the older software incompatible, i had problems with them causing my laptop to overheat and shutdown everytime i tried until i learned of this.
imgburn did not work also.
my cds look they have something burnt on them but dont play at all!!!

downloaded and tried it cd looks like it has burnt but put it in a cd player there is nothing on it and nothing on it on the computer also.
this is really annoying me now all i want is to burn a cd!!!!
any one help to why this is happening, im really starting to dislike windows 7 now!!!

Are you using a playlist when you burn the CDs with Imgburn?
Well, if you don't know if you are using a playlist, I would guess you are not.
Are you using Wave files?
You have to use a playlist to burn a music CD in Imgburn as far as I know.
Following info is from the Imgburn site a few months ago. This info applies ONLY to versions 2.4 and newer. If you go to Imgburn website, you can find a tutorial which has screen captures for the following instructions. I am just showing you the text here:
ImgBurn's ability to burn Audio CD's is currently based around the well known 'CUE' (as in 'BIN + CUE') image file format.
To burn music files (MP3 etc) you first need to create a CUE file.
The most direct method of doing this involves first switching to 'Write' mode.
To do this, click the 'Mode' menu at the top and then click 'Write'.
Then click the 'Create CD CUE File...' button.
Top Tip: This is probably the easiest way, especially if you intend on burning the disc there and then.
OR you can do it by clicking the 'Tools' menu and then selecting 'Create CD CUE File'.
Next, click on the top right 'Browse for a file...' button. The familiar 'Open File' dialog box will then appear.
When you've located your files and selected them, just click the 'open' button.
Top Tip: You can also just use drag and drop from an Explorer type window.
If you want to configure the 'PreGap' / 'CD-TEXT' options for your tracks, select each track in turn and change the settings until your heart is content!
Note: ImgBurn currently supports reading 'Tag' data from APE, Flac, MP3, OGG, WMA and WV files.
Alternatively if you want to do them all in one go, highlight the appropriate 'Session' object in the tree and do it that way.
Along the same lines, highlight the 'Disc' object in the tree if you want to configure the top level 'CD-TEXT' information - this is where you'd specify the album name/title (as opposed to the track name/title).
Depending on how you like to work, you might want to check the 'Add To Write Queue When Done' box here. By doing so, you won't then have to load it manually when you've switched to 'Write' mode and are ready to burn.
When you're done, click the 'OK' button and you'll be prompted to save your new CUE file.
Type in a name for the file and click 'Save'.
If you took the easy route earlier (via the button in 'Write' mode), you can probably just click the big 'Write' button to burn your audio compilation to disc!
OR you can simply follow the 'How to write an image file to a disc with ImgBurn' guide to burn your new CUE file just like any other image file.

If you burn a CD with one of these apps and it "fails", can you reuse the CD??
Have you tried to copy a bunch of word documents or pictures to one of these discs after the same disc failed to accept music?? This would tell you if anything really happened during the burn.
Do the songs at least appear to be on the CD when you look at the disk in Windows Explorer?
