    Windows Installer Errors

It had been working okay, until earlier this afternoon. Not sure what changed, but now when I attempt to install program from my archive, I get a message something like:

The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance
Since the only support personnel that I have is in this forum, here I am, asking for a solution. At first, I thought that the problem might be some kind of permissions problem, because I just copy/pasted the archive from my primary to my secondary rig, but I ran takeownship on the archive, so that shouldn't be the issue.

    redsoxm16,

Thanks, I just tried that, even though it was addressed to XP. I'm not certain that the unregister/register steps did anything or not, because it just returned to a normal command prompt line without display any action.

I checked the permissions of HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, but they seemed to be okay. I guess that only leaves the last step described, a repair install, or system recovery, but since this OS has only been operating ~24 hours, that seems somewhat premature.

Un-registering and Re-registering Windows Installer will not show any or give any message the screen will just flash that's it. That used to work for me all the time when i had Windows Installer issues

I went to one of the links to download the Windows Installer, but the highest version that I found only mentioned XP and earlier, so I decided to try a System Restore, but was confronted with another error dialog. I then clicked the advance recover methods link, which had the option to do a repair install, but when I clicked the Yes button (for having the DVD) nothing happened.

Since this was working until I downloaded the Windows Live programs, I have to assume that it was them that threw a monkey wrench into the works.

I will try using the DVD from boot and keep my fingers crossed. Just my luck, first day for the install, and it has major problems.
