Then this may be a U3 thing,, maybe saved on some firmware...

There are generally 2 ways (that I know of) to name a usb device

The General Tab and an autorun.ini file on the root of the drive, which is a hidden file.
    Are you showing hidden files?
I might be, depends what folder... how & where would I enable hidden folders & where would I find this autorun.ini file?

Right now there isnt a single file showing on the drive...

    In Explorer
    Hit Alt
    Click Tools
    Folder Options
    Second Tab
Uncheck both boxes related to hidden files
    Click OK,
Open USB device and see what is there.

Actually,, Fat32 is better for cross platform,,, if you are talking about 9x
But for mac,, I think Fat32 is still better. NTFS only provides for Rights Security.
Well,, this is overly simplified explanation,, it goes way deeper. Before anyone harps on this.

Try the USBDeview app that I gave a link to before
Try using that app to uninstall the U3 device and then reinsert the USB stick again
There might be something in the Driver Registry entries that is sticking that this tool may help remove.
