If you have the software loaded for the touchpad sometimes they have a utility that you can run to enable/disable the touchpad.

Method 1:
Press Start ![]() write mouse press enter At the last Tab you should have Device settings (look at the picture) ![]() Method 2: Look at your system tray (place where your clock is located) There you will see Synaptics pointing device icon Right click it and click Pointing Device Settings Now you are at the tab as in the picture 1 (above) Note: you may need to click arrow to open hidden tray icons. ![]() If you don't have Synaptics pointing device on both mouse settings and system tray Download it's driver: HP Compaq 6735s Notebook PC- Synaptics TouchPad Driver - HP Business Support Center (check your version of Windows before downloading (32/64 bit)) or go here: HP Compaq 6735s Notebook PC- Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center Choose your OS, Click Driver - Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices And choose Synaptics TouchPad Driver |

It will completely disable your touchpad untill you click enable it on the same menu.
I am not sure about the function auto detecting external mouse and disabling touchpad ![]() |
