Friend changed all shortcuts to open with IE

Need a little help here. I've gotten a text from a friend saying that all her files open with Internet Explorer. After having her explain it to me a little more, it seems she changed all shortcuts to open with IE. Anyway she can revert back? She tells me even clicking "System Restore" opens IE.

    Here is a snapshot.

Please note that I'm not at her place, only getting text messages. Any help appreciated.

See what the latest restore point is. If it is within the past few days I try that first.
I also want to know how she did that in the first place. Just to know. lol

I tried to get her to System Restore but she says it opens with Internet Explorer also. I told her to type in the Start search line "rstrui" because she said accessing Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore also opened in IE.

Should I go over to her place and use a Win 7 disc to do the restore?

Type default in search. Change the defaults for programs that are not corrrect.

Once you get this worked out try to find out what caused the problem.

This sounds like a rogue registry change......

You can also initiate system restore from outside Windows. Hit F8 as you bootup.

    Or use the setup disk.

    Hello Andy,

You might see if using the LNK download in the tutorial below may be able to fix this for your friend. It will restore the default associations for all shortcuts (.lnk files).

Default File Type Associations - Restore

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Update on the status of the program. Turns out she changed EXE's to open with IE and not LNKs afterall. I downloaded the EXE reg file from the link Brink provided and all went well. Cheers.
