Start up Problem
Hi there,
wondering if anyone could help with a little issue i am having with Windows 7. Basically when i start up Windows 7, it loads without any issues until i try clicking on the icons on the desktop and along the bottom bar- as they do not register. the only way i found around this is every time i start up i press ctrl+alt+del and then click cancel. When Window screen pops up again, all the icons on both the desktop and task bar now respond and work. This has been ongoing for a week now and it is really annoying me. Any hints or help much appreciated. Thank you in Advance. Phil |

Phil Ive also noticed sometimes that some icons do not respond even though there their because after your desktop loads, it waits like 30 seconds before loading the non-important services and applications, that also might be the cause as one of these drivers/services or applications could 'Halt' your desktop during this time while they wait for their services and drivers to be laoded, Logitec/HP and a lot of other hardware manufacturers have a horrible history of causing that to happen. Solutions: try uninstalling anything you've installed this week or if you cbf, you can use System restore and roll back to a restore point before this started happening. Steven |

The closest that I have come to this problem is that I use wireless mice, and sometimes they don't become active when they should and I have to proceed via keyboard inputs, but that doesn't sound like your problem, because you apparently do have control of the cursor. Still, if you use a wireless mouse, you might try replugging it's receiver when it's not responding.

Thanks guys,
Still no luck, tried all the fixes below, but problem is still there. Does not seem to be a loading issue, as sometimes i leave the computer to boot up and even after returning after 10 minutes the problem is still there. I use a wireless mouse, but i have full control over the cursor. When Windows boots up and I hover over the icons, there is no indication to link the cursor with the icons. When i do my ctrl+alt+del fix, and i hover the cursor over the icons, the icons react as soon as the cursor is on it (i.e the icons light up). I'm going to try look into this problem further, and do not particularly want to roll back my windows, as since this problem started I have made a number of changes to work etc. The only other option would be a clean install which i want to avoid, as i have alot, i mean a hella of a lot of data to back up. Thanks for your input anyway guys......please feel free to comment if any other guys have an idea of what is happening. Phil |
