Try changing the resolution
Right click on your desktop, then resolution.
I would also check for any virus or malware. If it is the resolution, this should not happen.
You may also want to download and try malwarebytes, to make sure there is no malware on your computer.

Welcome to Seven Forums, Did something change your screen resolution?
Screen Resolution - Display Settings
Your windows 7 should show a recommended resolution apply that if it has changed. Good luck to you with your problem.
i have tried the screen resolution and apparantly it is on the recommended, even in here the tabs and icons are large. could it be malware then as Rich says?
No one can say for sure if you have malware or not, that may not the cause in this case, but never could be sure. Download the malwarbytes and be sure. Even if that was not the cause of the problem, you may have malware and its best to always check, to get rid of it.

You may also want to try these suggestions:
Download the most current drivers for the monitor.
The next issue is your display card, Make sure it is up to date and working properly
Ok thank you i will give this all a go, and i will let you know if it works.. thank you again

It is always a good practice to run scans if something seems to have changed your pc without you doing it. In my case I have young kids playing on the pc's and sometimes they do things that are hard to change back if you don't know what they did. This does not seem to be your problem. As you say you turned of the pc and then restarted in the morning. Sometimes I do system restores but that should be last resort. Did you look at windows update to see if a update may have caused this problem?
Well i downloaded the malware programme and it found loads of nasties, and wey hey its all back to normal, thank you so much for your help
