Recycle bin confirmation doesn't appear for ext. drive

    Hi,

This is more a curiosity than a problem, but maybe someone can explain this to me. I have the recycle bin properties for both my C:\ drive and my external j:\ drive set to ask for confirmation when deleting a file. Yet when I open Windows Explorer and delete a file from my J:\ drive it does NOT ask for confirmation.

Any idea why this setting works for the C:\ drive and not the external drive?

    Hi ProDad,

I'm not sure, but I think in order to delete something permanently from an external drive you have to delete the file and then empty the Recycle Bin while the drive is still mounted. Perhaps Windows doesn't request confirmation because it knows if the drive is suddenly unplugged, any files you've 'deleted' (in reality, probably more like 'flagged for deletion') will remain unharmed.

I could be wrong - but even if I'm right, Windows should know better! :P

    Cheers,

But wouldn't that be the case for the C: drive as well?

    Get an app called USBDeview

    Remove USB device
    Run app
Right Click the USB device in the list and Uninstall
You can clean up other devices also
Devices will be redetected when plugged back in.
    See if this works.
