problem is i cannot get in to winRe because i don't remember the password, and the other selection in local user is usergroup$ which i cannot find the password for that. And the laptop doesn't have a cd drive. anything that can be done from the usb port?

If you burn the ISO from this site Offline NT Password & Registry Editor to USB stick and boot from USB it should work. Just follow the instructions closely. It looks scary and all but I had to use that Program a few weeks ago on my son's computer and it worked.
