Is W7 worse when doing upgrades?

I disliked the nagging every 10 minutes and the forced closer if you weren there to say "No" I don't want to log off at this time.

Just now I was in the middle of a very lengthy and difficult SQL statement and without notice my computer just logged off.. It came back up, just pleased with itself for doing a windows upgrade and the recovery only returned 1/2 of the statement I was building..

I don't mind automatically setting up the update (without it I update maybe every 6 months) but why can't I choose when I want to log off for the upgrade completion?

And is this log off without notification the new way?

Go into the Updates and set it to notify you but allow you to do them manually.
This will eliminate the potential problem.

However, I have never had that problem. It always notifies me at the bottom right and counts down from 10 minutes. But, now I have it set as manual, cause I want to see what updates are being done out of curiosity.

And it is generally better to do a fresh install rather than an upgrade.
Win 7 is better about it, but it is just a rule of thumb.
Start fresh and you will have fewer potential problems.
