Windows 7 32/64 bit and oem question

First of all, hi to everyone
I just got a new laptop (samsung) which has windows 7 home premium installed with it OEM version, preactivated and genuine. But the installed windows 7 is 32bit only and my system has 4GB or ram, so to use the full 4GB i would need the 64bit version.
My question is, can i reformat my system with one of the windows ultimate iso (original ones from microsoft) and use the key that came with my laptop to install a 64 bit version of windows 7 home premium?

    Thanks in advance.

no im afraid you will not be able to that ,the key will be tied to the oem install you could however use the "anytime upgrade" disc that should have come with your laptop :)

no, unfortunately no disc came with it! :S
but i should be able to use the key on this machine as long as it is this machine right???
and also i dont think i can upgrade to 64 bit without a full reformat (so no upgrade)

I was able to create a full set of recovery DVDs from my laptop which then gave me the option of selecting 32 or 64 bit... To test, just create one set of DVDs and boot up from DVD... You will then find out if the option is there... GL :)

that's right as long as it is the oem softare you use , a fresh install is not that dificult to perform have a browse through the tutorial section of the forum and see how easy it is , we will be here to hold your hand if you do decide to go the upgrade route
