I have never had an issue with any program while not running with a pagefile.
Give me one good reason why installing to an external drive that is connected via eSata is any different then running on a drive that is internally mounted into the case?
And your last comment is false. Can I install and run 7 light weight on a system with 512mb of ram? It is superior in many ways but to make a blanket statement like you just did couldn't be more wrong.
I am not having a whine. I had some issues with Windows 7. I have fixed some and shared with others what I did to make it work for me and make it viable. Is that not what this community is for? Also so many people rave on about the OS I feel it only fair that people who don't see it as perfect have their opinion shared as well.
I also have a few issues left that I will continue to look into further but I happened to include them in the original post.
And I am not talking about old hardware. I am talking about low power mobile devices or other such smaller platforms. Until Windows 7 can fill all facets of the hardware XP will still have a need. Windows 7 is not perfect and boot times/memory usage is still an issue a lot of people care about. Regardless of how much better it is in other area's, this fact still stands.
Did you clean install or upgrade? To rule out any further issues, I'd run chkdsk on the hard drive, Memtest86+ on the memory for a pass, and then Prime 95 for a couple of hours on the CPU. Before all this, fully update all your drivers including chipset and firmware, then defrag the PC.
Use the guide in my sig. If your hardware passes the diagnostics then 7 and the software will need to be addressed. What antivirus are you using? Any 7 registry tweaks or apps?
It was a clean install. Hard drive is brand new and freshly formatted. All my hardware has passed many stress testing methods including Memtest86+, Prime 95 for greater then 24 hours. Latest drivers were downloaded for everything before installation of Windows 7.
No antivirus installed as A) this is a testing partition B) I use a linux box as my front end before my network that runs firewall and antivirus on all traffic in and out of my router.
Oh,, and about that whole reboot time thing with 7 versus XP?

Thank you for the move command help! I will have to check this out when I get 7 installed on my raid array (as I have removed it off my external for room to back up stuff). I agree that it would be a bit cumbersome but the fact is its there! I know a few people personally who will be very grateful for this.

And the notification area thing... what I mean is in XP and Vista when you click on the arrow to show hidden icons it moved to the left revealing the hidden icons. However in Windows 7 it creates a new window above which involves moving your eye and mouse further to access hidden icons (which I do frequently I just hide them all to clean up my screen). It is just a major annoyance for me and others I have discussed it with. I love the new bahaviour and functionality of the notification area... I just wish there was an option or a way to have it expand to the left to show hidden icons like it used to.
