I think it's all a matter of looks, honestly. The differences in features are irrelevant and most of them are available via some program. I like Windows 7 because of Aero and because of the design of the windows, but nothing else. I even had to download some tweakers to get rid of the VERY annoying previews in the taskbar, had to install the old Quick Launch on the left, returned the task bar to small icons with text and not-merging, and I consider sometimes to install the old classic start menu because the new one is stupidly worse and slower and stupidly complicated to arrange to the way you want it. I could say that all I like from W7 is Aero, that it's lighter and faster than Vista, the preview icons of the image files in the desktop, and littel more other than the design. If XP runs much better in older computers and does the same, to me it means that it simply was better and the rest is marketing pushing us to "move on". I keep XP in my older laptop. The absurd thing is that the "older laptop" is just 1.5 years old, but doesn't run W7 well for being too heavy, but runs XP fast and smooth. As said, Marketing for the majority of the users who won't really need to upgrade at all. But no, I wouldn't go back, because I like the design of W7 and to me it is very important. XP was ugly and I was using a Vista themepack looking 100% like Vista but without Aero.

I notice they have upgraded some Vista features like the formerly-unstable gadgets to Win7's better version. It is now actually tolerable and doesn't make my skin crawl to have to work on it. Then my Dad calls and wants to know why he gets a little blue circle on his wireless mouse when Vista wakes up. I haven't had Win7 hang since RC.

XP is like an old Dodge Dart which still has some kick but just feels old, as others are starting to notice I see.

If all you are going by is the looks? Then you really don't know what the real difference is with Vista/7 from XP. There is a whole lot more to it than just looks. How very shallow of you

I wouldn't want to go back to XP, but I could go back to Linux if I had to.

Ahhh,, let's open that can of worms....

PC = Easy to use, lots of games, lots of hardware choices, user friendly, but people don't really know how to use it, really they don't. I will leave that for another day.

Mac = Easy to use, User Friendly, System and Software runs well on it. Limited Hardware and Software Choices, still very proprietary on the OS side.

Linux = Very Open, can be user friendly to a point, have to really know what you are doing to get it to do everything you want it to do, Limited Games, Lots of Hardware Choices to a point, Lots of software choices till the support goes away completely, not all software gets good support.

There are positives and negatives to all 3 of them, it comes down to what you need and what you want to do with your system as to which you should choose.

Choosing one just cause you don't like the company or it's methods (which they are all guilty of something at some point) is just dumb.

Please ignore this post and move along,, Thank You

Is there a way to go back to Vista?
I am going nuts. I can't get my Blackberry to sync and I've tried a number of versions of the Blackbery software and tried compatibility. Outlook is making sounds, even though I've turned the sounds off in the options panels. I am getting false popups telling me that one of my external drives...

How many are going back to Vista or XP?
While boot up and shutdown times seem to be about the same I have noticed desktop operations to be a little faster in Windows 7 v/s Vista or XP. That's about the extent of my satisfaction so far. Just about everything else has been an exercise in frustration for me. This is really starting to piss...

Heres why, on the 29th August I would have been running Vista on this laptop for exactly a year. I have two partitions, one for my OS and one for everything else. At the minute my Windows 7 partition has a red bar underneath it, meaning im running out of space. I never got this with Vista even with...

Back to Vista!
Back to Vista! Id anticipated Windows 7 RC with relish, looking forward to improved speed, slick interface, new features. I now read all the many accolades in this and other forums with little cheer. All went well with the upgrade to my laptop (HP DV6680, Core Duo T7250, 4GB), everything...
