I only boot into my XP drive to keep it updated, and to use some apps that still aren't compatible with seven yet. Other than that it really feels and looks antiquated Fabe

i can honestly say hand on heart, the only "problems" iv encountered which would require me to "go back" are actually 64 bit problems with a few very old programs, so id just stick win 7 32 bit on instead if i couldnt live without them, i could probably go back to Vista, and learn to live without super search and libraries (dont know how i ever did without them now) but XP i think has had its day now.... i used the computer in my local library last week and they have XP i found it offended my eyes, i see now what people mean by "fisher price"

I have an older laptop running XP. I have a "policy" of keeping the original OS on their original hard drive, and since I can't stick another hard drive into the laptop, it will run XP until it's finally retired. Otherwise, I don't think I will buy another computer running XP, so there you have it, it's Windows 7 until they come up with 8.

    Hi there
I *could* go back to W2K3 server it still beats W7 for speed by quite a margin even W7 X-64 - but running a server as a desktop OS isn't to everybody's taste and you have to fiddle it a bit to get it to behave like a workstation OS.

However I'm perfectly satisfied by W7 - especially after the latest fixes -- I'll have to keep the W2K3 server around (as a Virtual machine) for a while as I still have some apps and hardware that won't run on W7. Some hardware doesn't even have VISTA drivers - such as an old Plotter / blue print printer. This hardware is perfectly serviceable so I'm not going to get rid of it any time soon - and the newer stuff is HIDEOUSLY EXPENSIVE too for what I want -- just "Architects" drawings and schematics of printed circuits etc.

I've made my W2K3 Server VM look something like W7 anyway - themes and all.

I took a walk down memory lane this weekend. First Windows 95...98...2000...then XP. Each stop was like passing through a bench mark in time. Now as I sit here with Windows 7 I feel liberated and for the first time think I know how Martin Luther King Jr. felt. Free at last!

I think a better question would be if it is worth it to upgrade to Windows 7, rather than it being worth it to go back to XP/Vista.

There are no show-stopping bugs in Windows 7. There may be things you don't like with it, but a lot of that is due to the fact you're already used to another OS. I don't like the naming conventions used for the Control Panel area, but it isn't worth going back to another OS.

I'd be surprised if there is a compelling reason to go back to a previous version.

There is no compelling reason to go back. None.

It always amazes me that people would rather stay stuck in the past, rather than move on to the future.
They see Win 7 as a step back, when really, besides maybe some little UI things, the OS underneath is quite solid. A far cry better than XP.

XP is dead, you can cry and moan and stomp yoru feet all day long,,,, even MS want the thing to go away as an old sock you have worn for 10 years.
XP is to 7 as 98 was to XP.
