    after 4 minutes monitor wakes up from power saver mode

    I set my screen saver to blank after 4 minutes and my monitor to power down after 5 minutes. After 4 minutes I hear the Windows seven default sound for log off (I think) and the screen powers up but the blank screen saver stays on. This only happens when I have a check mark by show the welcome screen when the screen saver wakes up. Like I said, the screen saver does not show the welcome screen, the power just comes back on the monitor. paj692

    I'm not really sure what you are after, but if you don't want a screensaver, why not set it to "none" instead of "blank" That way there is no time factor involved, and the welcome screen will appear normally.

    For years I use screen saver with password required.

    When I am away, in case someone comes by, they won't be able to use the computer, without knowing the password. I use the power save feature because my LCD monitor creates too much background light to leave on at night. This only occurs in Windows 7 not in Vista or XP. My question is this; without touching the mouse or keyboard;
    what can wake the monitor, but not the screen saver? How can I find out what is waking the monitor and make it stop? Thanks for your reply paj692

    This test is normally for finding out why the computer wakes, but give it a try its free.

    After the problem, go to search type cmd. Then do not hit enter, right click and run as administrator. In the cmd prompt type powercfg -lastwake . Report on the results.

    You can, also, go to the event viewer, after the problem and look for errors. You may find something.

    Results , thanks for suggestions;

    The only Event Viewer messages after the problem occurred again:
    The Multimedia Class Scheduler service entered the stopped state.
    The Multimedia Class Scheduler service entered the started state.
    From cmd;
    Wake History Count - 0

    I played with some of the settings in advanced power properties, such as Wake on USB set to disabled. And made sure Net advance option let this device wake the computer had no checkmark. This worked a couple of times but always reverts back to not working without changing the advanced settings again. I stopped the wallpaper changer that comes with Windows 7 but it's still happening. Still stumped. But my question is what 'could' wake up ACPI controlled devices without also waking up the screensaver?

    What I found..

    Ran powercfg -energy and produced report,will try to attach. I'll make sure my bios is set for S3 sleep. Usb devices will not enter suspend. Not sure if that's the bluetooth mouse and keyboard combo or the funky memory card reader in the front panel. Not much I can do about that. Thanks for the tips. Attached file is actually xml file result of powercfg -energy. I had to rename it. Thx paj692

    Try updating your graphics card drivers. Go directly to the manufacturer's site and find the downloads section for your card.

    I've tried both

    The Nvidia drivers recommended for my card and the Galaxy drivers (the manufacturer) recommended for my card and the problem persists. Any other suggestions? paj692

    Solution

    I stumbled on this (Part of the OS really);
    In the troubleshooter in windows 7 ultimate 32:
    Under Sytem and Security:
    Last option: Improve power usage
    Click Run (Security check)
    Found 11 Problems and 11 warnings
    USB unable to go into suspend mode.
    It started staying asleep even with the welcome screen checkmark in Screensaver.
    Marks this thread solved. Thx paj692
