    Hard Drive Space

I click on my data partition under Computer and go to property and it says I am taking up a quarter terabyte of space and then I highlight all the folders and it says I'm taking up 131 gigs so what's going on. I think I know but it's been about a hundred years since I been in school.

There are a number of things that will consume space that you might not see

Pagefile: Usually equal to the size of your RAM
Hibernation File: Often equal to the size of your RAM

System Restore points. If you are in Windows 7, right click on My Computer, Properties, System Protection, hightlight C:\ and click Configure. It will show you what your current usage is.

Download Windirstat and take a look, it's only 600K and it's clean. Good program. It will show you in visual terms what is taking up space.

If you want to see all the folders and files on your system (and incidentally include them in measuring HDD space), go to Computer>Organise>Folder and Search options>View and uncheck "Hide Protected Operating System Files"..

hidden files. i know some manufacture install by default system back up software that hides the folder. even if you go to folder properties, it won't display the folder size. you'll need to run the back up software to determine which file/folder hogging disk space. is this an lenovo computer?
