"bootmgr is missing" issue :: Help!

Booted my machine today, and it came to the "bootmgr is missing" error message during the boot-up process.

I looked up some fixes online, and this is what I have already attempted. None of these proposed fixes have worked:

    - I executed these fixes: Getting "BOOTMGR IS MISSING" after clean install of RC1. They did not work.
    - I then played around with my IDE and SATA cables. That didn't work.
    - I then played around in the BIOS, which, not surprisingly, didn't work.

    System Configuration:
    - Windows 7 RC 1
    - 1 x WD Caviar Black 640gb main disk
    - 1 x Hitachi DeskStar 320gb secondary, backup disk
    - In BIOS, Boot Priority is: 1, Removable, 2 HDD, 3 CD-ROM

Any thoughts? Suggestions? Any help would be very appreciated.

    Thank you! :)

If none of that worked,, then ,,,, If you also tried repairing the Startup from the Win 7 disc

    A. Run Hard Drive Diags

    B. You will have to reload the OS

    Hello Rhit, Welcome to SF,

Did you try the "bootrec /fixboot" command ??

    • Boot with your Windows 7 diskif you don't have one this this article System Repair Disc - Create
    • Then from the Repair option select Command prompt
    • Type bootrec /fixboot see whether that fixes the problem.
    • Or try the Startup Repair

    Hope this helps,
    Captain

It usually means bootmgr is where he always was, but windows is looking in the wrong place.

Check the correct drive is marked Active.

You can do it by booting 7 dvd to cmd prompt and running Diskpart.

Most find it easier to use the free PW boot disc: Partition Wizard Bootable CD allows user to boot computer directly to manage partition.

    @Capt Jack Sparrow:
I ran bootrec /fixboot. It says "The operation has completed successfully." When I then run bootrec /scanos, it says it can't find any W7 installations. Ideas?

    @SIW2:
Could you elaborate on how to run DiskPart? I'm not familiar with that.

    Notes:
The command prompt lists my primary hdd as X:/. Is that normal?

    Thanks,
    Rhit

Just checked BIOS again. My WD drive doesn't appear on SATA. Only my backup drive.

Startup Repair will work if run up to 3 separate times with reboots IF the Win7 partition is marked Active.

To make sure it is, boot Win7 DVD Repair console, click through to Recovery tools list, select Command Line, type:

    DISKPART
    LIST DISK
    SELECT DISK # (# for Win7 HD)
    LIST PARTITION
    SELECT PARTITION # (# for Win7 partition)
    ACTIVE
    EXIT

Now return to Recovery Tools list and run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots as it may have multiple issues to fix.

Unplug all but the WD drive until it shows in BIOS by changing cables, different port, etc. then run HD diagnostics on it to be sure.

I am uploading the installation file for the best version of WD Data Lifeguard to burn to CD then run full Diagnostics on the HD. It not only diagnoses but can fix many issues that could otherwise become serious.

Follow that up with chkdsk when you get into Win7 using Startup Repair steps given earlier.

This file will install the GW Scan (Data Lifeguard) ISO in your C: root to burn to CD: Attachment 51965
