When you go into Themes section and click on an Aero theme, you should get a pop notification stating Aero doesnt work or something like that. This means, your VGA is not supporting the WDDM technology and u cant use Aero or extract ful juice from 7.

Try searching for a driver for your VGA and try to update so it supports 7. If not avail, you have to live with 7 without its beautiful Aero.

I encountered the same and removed 7 and installed XP. Mine is an old VGA and Mob.

Also, fill out ur spec sheet, which will allow us to think and prov any workarounds if avail.

Try clicking on the 'Troubleshoot problems with transparency and other Aero effects' link at the bottom of the Personalization screen (Right click on Desktop -> Personalize)

and also try to fill the Systems Specs. It may help us to get a clearer picture of the problem.

did you try this. try it and post the results.

you can also check this out to enable Aero transparency effects and also check the link if this doesn't work

    1. Make sure that Windows Experience Index has been calculated and computed.
    2. Click on Start menu.
    3. Type the following text into the Start Search box:
    Aero

    4. Click on a search result listing under Control Panel group that named as the following:

Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects

Tip: If you don’t see “Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects” in the search results, click on Control Panel to see all Aero related items in Control Panel.
    5. An “Aero – Troubleshoot computer problems” wizard dialog will appear. Click on Next button.
    6. The troubleshooting wizard will try to detect any problem by running a series of checks against various components required to make Aero works and running, such as video memory, Desktop Windows Manager (DWM) service, color depth, theme, power settings and etc. At the end of the analysis, the wizard will attempt to fix the issues related to Aero service and restart the Aero feature.
Tip: If there is still items that are marked with red cross which indicates is the problems that prevent Aero from working properly, fix the issues and then rerun the “Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects” troubleshooting wizard again.

i guess it should work even if the VGA doesn't support Aero, because we are disabling the Machine Check (UseMachineCheck) to find out whether the VGA is capable of doing Aero.

thnx m8..but there is one more problem. My sound card is a Creative 5.1 and there are no drivers for it for 7. So, I have to either wait for one or live with XP.
