    start up problem

Hi, I have a problem with my daughters pc and I would appreciate some advice to sort it. It is Dell pc with vista basic OS. (I posted a thread on the vista forum but it ended without resolving)

Basically from power up, I get the Dell splash screen where I can enter the bios if needed, and then It gives me a option to start up repair or start up normally. In either option, I get the green windows(loading?) bar moving from left to right and then it goes to a black screen.
This sitiuation happens if i load from the HDD or from the windows insall disc. I cannot re-install windows which is my preferred route if i can back up some of the files but at present I can do neither.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

    Kind Regards

    Andy

    Hello Andy,

You might see if doing a system restore at boot using a restore point dated when the system ran fine may be able to fix it for you.

    Hope this helps,
