if you have either an internal or external drive to image to do it. then if the drive is internal shutdown the system and remove it. then you can wipe c without any worries. a bit of advice never keep anything ob c that you cannot afford to loose including your doc's. you have the ability in the windows to locate your doc's on another drive. by doing this and as long as you do regular email backups the worst that will happen if you have problems with c is that you might loose a few pieces of email.

yopu also have the option to let us know what errors you are getting. this is a forum for fixing windows problems after all, and we would not have access to your files.

I'm getting a total computer screen/function freezing that the only way I can deal with is to unplug everything and remove the battery and re-install the battery and power up again. ( I cant even find the error reports ! - windows 7 is presenting me with some new problems that arent very user friendly ) theres no blue screen or report or anything. and the screen looks like digital military camo you see on the new US army uniforms on the screen ( well not exactly, I recently downloaded a picture - which I cant find - that has the exact same pattern as a thumbnail but when you go to open it the picture itself is fine in full size ). I'll upload an attachment of what is the nearest thing to what I'm describing as an example of the digital camo / screen pattern.

done a spybot analysis - nothing
done a disc check - automatically fix file errors - from startup - nothing
done a virus scan - nothing
done a disc cleanup
done a CCleaner cleanup
( havent done a disc defrag yet - it keeps saying 1% defraged for 2 months now since I got the computer??? )

what about off loading the files you do not want anyone looking at? do you have a way to do that then take it in to be looked at?

Given the picture you posted, I would have a serious look at the graphics driver.

With any windows system where "freezing" is a problem I would first check the graphics sub-systems - specifically the graphics drivers. for a laptop fist check would be the manufacturer's site and if they do not have newer drivers than installed then try the manufacturer of the graphics chip in use.

second thing to check - especially in the case of a laptop is overheating, make sure that all vents are clear and check processor temps using suitable software - often this is available in the system bios.

third check if still having problems is a memory test on system RAM

I'll do some graphics tinkering and look at the temp situation and the RAM and get back to this thread tommorow with any updates, thanks everyone for the input...I'll see what I can see over the rest of today.

If you simply copy any sensitive files to an external device - CD, DVD, external drive, and then delete the originals, (and empty the recycle bin of course), that should protect your data.

One other thing that I have just thought of is something like Truecrypt. with this you could encrypt the folders containing the data, (take backups of course just in case), Truecrypt's security is good enough to keep most people out of your files

Another suggestion for the future is to fit a second hard drive (External for a laptop, maybe a pen drive) and use this for all data storage, then if the system has to go to a repair centre the data drive is simply retained with you.

Hmm, that could be the math co-processor installed in nearly every modern CPU. I would completely reinstall 7.

the intellectual answer is after having copied/backed up all ur stuff would be to use ccleaner, under Cleaner select the Windows tab scroll down to Advanced at the bottom and place a check mark against Wipe free space...take urself off for a while cos it takes forever.
