Sorry rfmn482, but I did not state it correctly because I was writing from memory. It was not the "turn on sound" box that I clicked on, but rather the box labeled "Turn on Toggle Keys". I should have gone to the Ease of Access Center and checked exactly what the name was rather than typing my reply from memory. Sorry. But as I said before, it does work even after I restart my computer as long as I have my speakers turned on or my headphones plugged in.

Same here, although I could'nt hear mine. The wav was set to a low bass, and with my sub, I SOMEtimes noticed a sub "thud", but dismissed it...
Glad to know its not a system glitch,

Have solved my problem using 'outside' help. I have installed a small utility called CapsLock 1.2 and it does the job brialliantly, i not only get sound for on and off but a large visual confirmation on screen when I click the capslock key. Why this works so easily and provides me with 'sound' when Windows 7 has such a problem I do not know, equally and as usual, searching the Microsoft KB was a complete waste of many hours. Finally I fail to understand why Microsoft felt the need to completely change this from Windows XP and just like system Restore they have not improved things as a result. Thanks for all the contributions to the thread it has been very encouraging and supportive but time to move on i think and i am happy with the solution I finally got.

Mine got solved by accident. I installed the K-lite codec pack (Download K-Lite Codec Pack 6.20 (Full) - FileHippo.com) in order to add some sound and video enhancements to my system. All of a sudden, voila! My caps lock sound works without my mouse drivers being installed. (I hate intellipoint and don't want to use it.) So I guess it's a sound codec or driver that needed to be added. This is a huge download though so might not be good for some. Just use the default settings for everything if you don't feel like messing with all the settings. It works great that way.

Needless to say, installing Microsoft Intellipoint or your mouse's driver software also works, as stated earlier in this thread. Just make sure to disable automatic update check while installing because it does call home to Bill.

    Caps Lock - toggle keys

I use Home Premium and I can get a caps lock beep by holding down Numlock for 7-8 seconds, basically until it beeps. However if I put the computer into sleep mode or reboot the beep is gone. My audio system is run from the headphone jack, so it's not a problem reserved only for people who have their systems going through other plugs.

If anyone has a great idea, I'd love to hear about it. I'm a terrible typist and thus I have to look at the keyboard. I really could use that beep.

Anyone knows where these two beeps are located?
I find them a bit loud.
Want to lower the volume, which should be easy for a wav...

I have finally found the 100% guaranteed method of activating the Caps Lock beep

    (1) Control Panel

    (2) All Control Panel Items (the format of Control Panel in which individual items are listed)

    (3) Ease of Access Center

    (4) Check "Make the Keyboard Easier to Use"

    (5) Check "Turn on Toggle Keys"

    (6) CRITICAL - Turn off the box "Turn on Toggle Keys by holding down the NUM LOCK key for 5 seconds." by checking it.

    (7) Check OK

    (8) Exit Control Panel

    That's it.
