Little help plz

I have windows 7 home, it came on my new HP.
I`m running i7 920 with 9gigs of ram , 1tb hdd, 1.8 gigs memory on a gtx260.

1.) Im told that I can only use compatibility mode on win7 ulti and pro, not home, is this true ??

2.) I like win 7 so far, but my wife hates it, she seems to not be able to run alot of programs she used on XP, embrodery programs

3.) When my wife goes to her documents folder/photos, she has to open each folder just to see what is in it, is there any way that she can change how the folder will look, or show what is in it without opening every folder to see what is in it, it only shows pages, like a partially opened book, and you can't really see what is in them, like in XP it would show 4 pics of what is in there. Some files will show the picture or item and some will just show a black square, sometimes it will show the picture for a second and then goes to the black square. I can't visually see what is in the folder or visually see the item/picture/file... I need to SEE what the file is to pic which horse embroidery file I want not a black square.

To see what's in your folders, change the folder view to large icons and that should give you what you're looking for.

2. You can try running those applications in compatibility mode. That is done by selecting the application, then right clicking and going into properties. In the properties window there is a compatibility tab. I recommend XP SP2.

3. You can try setting that folder to Large Icons. If you look below the search box in that folder there will be a drop down to change that.

The XP mode in Win7 is XP running in a virtual machine.

It's available as a free download for Pro and Ultimate, but not for Home Premium.

I imagine that the VM will install in Home Premium, but you may have to come up with your own XP license. There are other virtual machines for Win7, like VirtualBox (open source), but I haven't tried them.

You might want this mode, as some of your wife's software may never be Win7 compatible. The same thing happened with some Win9X software and XP, but XP is now old enough that a lot of the pain seems to have been forgotten.

The cheapest Microsoft-sanctioned route may be an Anytime Upgrade.
