I will have to look later and see what services I am running on startup, how many actual programs are running and how many processes are listed in Task Manager.
Ah, but Process Explorer and Task Manager show exactly the same number of processes. They just show the information differently.

If you don't need the programs pre-installed by ASUS - why don't you stop them from running at start-up, just use msconfig, uncheck a few boxes - and voila.

Actually I thought that services set to "manual" do not start at start-up, but may be started by programs that need them. Of course, it might happen that the system needs some of these at start-up, but for those that I have myself set to manual or disabled, I would not know why would that be the case.

Unifex - I am planning to clean up my system from all the Asus stuff. Some of it I want. I am reconsidering some of them as nice, but not needed. As for the task Man and Proc exlporer, I didn't know for sure if task manager showed everything or just the main processes. I dont use task man that much. also I will be using MSconfig and autoruns to take things out of the startup. I just haven't had time to.

Autoruns is a good program. It shows everything that auto starts. And it is a long list.

Guys: MS created the greatest OS ever by setting previously Auto services to Manual on fast triggers.

Why mess with perfection? You'd have to have 528mb RAM or less for it to drag unless you have other issues.

OK so aside from whatever that was, I just got most of the ASUS programs off of my comp. So I am down to 63 processes. YAY. so I got rid of 12 unused processes. And I stopped at least 5 programs from loading at startup so my system should run a little cleaner.

The solution to bloatware is a clean reinstall. Just uninstalling leaves registry keys, even using Advanced in Revo uninstaller. Clean install is lean install, always noticeably better.

I just tried it on my Win 7 Pro X64 system and it runs just as well as it did under XP. Interestingly, I see a group of TCPV6 processes active which I find strange as I thought I had disabled TCPV6.

lsass.exe:940 TCPV6 dell-p370:49156 dell-p370:0 LISTENING
services.exe:924 TCPV6 dell-p370:49157 dell-p370:0 LISTENING
svchost.exe:1080 TCPV6 dell-p370:49153 dell-p370:0 LISTENING
svchost.exe:1180 TCPV6 dell-p370:49154 dell-p370:0 LISTENING
svchost.exe:780 TCPV6 dell-p370:135 dell-p370:0 LISTENING
System:4 TCPV6 dell-p370:445 dell-p370:0 LISTENING
System:4 TCPV6 dell-p370:5357 dell-p370:0 LISTENING
wininit.exe:860 TCPV6 dell-p370:49152 dell-p370:0 LISTENING

Edit: I disabled TCPV6 again and checked it and I still see a bunch of TCPV6 processes running. Any idea why this is happening?

Hmm, interesting; I found the same thing. And I though I had disabled TCPV6.

Windows 7 is PERFECT. Period. Any amount of tweaks like disabling services will only make it worse. Those who don't like the beautiful UI of Windows 7 and still paid money to buy it and then disable these great features should realize the problem is not with Windows 7, it's in their head.

I used to turn off unnecessary services of windows. However, I did the same thing to Win 7 which is obviously out of my previous knowledge. The worst is I can not use outlook to send email now:cry:. Can anyone export your default services list of Windows 7 and send it to me? Thank you very much!...
