Vista vs. Windows 7 question

I have multiple computers in my home. My primary machine was built in July of 2009..and with Windows 7 being free (Beta and RC1)..that is what I used there. Then I moved to a retail copy of the software when it was available.

My wife has a laptop with Windows Vista. Like you, my experience with this laptop has been favorable. No problems, good performance, already licensed, and a recovery setup that allows me to very quickly put it back exactly where it was the day it was new without having to use any 3rd party software or pay for a license, etc.

I've found no solid reason to spend the money to upgrade my wife's laptop. I expect Vista to be supported for the lifetime that I own this laptop..which will only be for 3-5 years.

Good takes. I appreciate it. What's with the "Libraries" in Win 7 that I see some griping about?

Today, by comparison Win7 is light as a butterfly and quick as a bee. Vista still bumbles a bit with hangs I never get in 7.
i agree. Win 7 just works better.

Some just have a harder time than others with new things, they're basically junction points; have a look at this.

Libraries - Personal and Public User Folders

       Note
Libraries let you access and arrange items from one or more folders quickly without moving them from their original location. Libraries themselves don't store your files or folders. Instead, they point to different folders on your hard disk, or on an external drive attached to your computer. This gives you easy access to a category of files no matter where they are stored. For instance, if you have music files on your hard disk and on an external drive, you can access all of your music files from the Music library. For more information about Windows 7 Libraries see Understanding Windows 7 Libraries - Windows 7 for Developers - The Windows Blog.

Thanks, BFK. Looks like a solid feature.

I want to thank everyone for responding in such a way to allow for a coherent decision. Looks like I'll keep Vista on my PC (just works too good) and buy a laptop with Win 7 so that I can experience what looks like a great OS. I will definitely send people this way for Win 7 advice. Lots of folks with evident knowledge. Thanks again, everyone.
