Confirm in Disk management that you overwrote Win7, as you might have put XP on another partition.
If so you need to find an installer for your version to activate with your Product key.
Where did you buy or obtain Win7 originally?
I made a new folder for xp when I installed it. I bought a used cpu with win 7 I have the key i just need to find a way to get windows 7 to boot.
Hmm, this can be complicated... if Win7's boot files/partition is intact, all you need is to reinstall BCD and you'll get your Win7 back, but in return - usually BCD's files will remove/overwrite your XP's boot files/code. To simplify things, do a Win7 reinstall on another partition. This is recovery doesn't worth your time IMHO.

What do you mean you "made a new folder for xp?" Did you make a new partition to install XP on?
Look in XP DIsk Management to see if there is more than one partition. Post back exactly what the partitions say on them.
The only way to get Windows 7 to boot is to determine if it is still present on the Hard Drive and then repair it so that it starts up. Otherwise you will have to reinstall it by finding an installer for your version - borrow from a friend or download it.
How did you buy Win7 with a used CPU?
you could use a linux live cd and then use grub to setup your boot partitions, but why not download a win7 image and repair it from that?
