Welcome.
Did you do an upgrade or clean insall. If answer is upgrade install, almost everyone will give you the answer to do a clean install to get rid of the old downloads. It can be done with an upgrade DVD. If you did an upgrade, you will experience problems in the future.
If you prefer not to do a clean install and the downloads are in control panel>programs you can uninstall from there or download and use revno uninstaller which is more thorough.
If they are part of windows.old, you can delete the entire file, through, disc cleanup, and including system files.
Hi Richard,
I have a completely new PC with Windows 7 64bit and Office Home & Student. Most of my browsing has been done within the 'Incognito' search and although it states that the searches will not be recorded, the downloads will be. This is no problem if I want to then delete the downloads, as the delete button is present and works, but I was not aware of the 'Previous downloads' when the properties access is made and the normal 'Delete' is not present in this section, so no easy way to do this.
I am looking for another answer that will enable me to do this ......... any helpers out there?
Alexam.
Having done a quick search it would appear that what you're talking about is Google Chrome, so this might be what you're looking for - Clear download history : Clear personal information - Google Chrome Help
You are opening the Properties of the Download folder correct? And going to the Previous Versions tab correct? Clearing System Restore points clears Previous Versions.
From the help file:
What are previous versions?
Previous versions are either copies of files and folders created by Windows Backup or copies of files and folders that Windows automatically saves as part of a restore point. You can use previous versions to restore files and folders that you accidentally modified or deleted, or that were damaged. Depending on the type of file or folder, you can open, save to a different location, or restore a previous version.
