Folder access problem

This problem started a few weeks ago for me when I tried to access the AppData folder to update some information from my old computer (program data etc.) Since this is a hidden folder, I went to change it's visibility through the Folder Settings in the control panel, something I did in XP. I now know how this should be done. Anyway, the overall problem is that desktop applications such as MailWasher cannot save their data in the AppData folder due to access inability. For example, Mailwasher gives an EFCreateError (file cannot be created).
I need something to reset all folder options to their original settings. I've tried System Restore and twice to Repair Windows without success. If there is another way of fixing this problem I'd be glad to hear about it.
This is my first post, so if any other information is needed, just ask.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome,

If not too many folders, right click>properties>previous version. See how that works. You can also use back up and restore to go back to earlier times with all the documents in question. Be aware, that the contents will change to the were they appeared on the date restored to.

I tried restoring several folders but unfortunately it didn't seem to help. The last option I had was to reinstall windows and that's what I think I'll do. I'll keep this thread open for a bit longer to see if any other solutions present themselves. Thanks.

You answer probably would work if I restored every folder in my computer! (Just kidding) Restoring the CORRECT folder might have helped. Knowing what that folder is, is a different thing. And I've got no doubt that your solution would fix other problems.
Also, it's been a few weeks since my problem originated. Since then I've tried several fixes (Folder Options etc.) so a solved using several fixes might be needed for this. Anyway, thanks for your suggestions..
